Buton District is one of the Level II Regions in the province of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.The capital of this district is located in Wajo market. District has an area of 2.488.71 km ² (before expansion 6463 km ²), and in 2004 a population of 265,724 inhabitants (533,931 inhabitants before the expansion). Buton Asphalt known as producer.

Buton District has an area of land area ± 2488.71 km ² or area of 248,871 ha and the estimated area of marine waters ± 21,054 km ², is bordered by:
 North: North Buton
 East: Wakatobi
 South: flores sea
 West: Bombana District

Total Population
Buton population according to the Population Census in 2000 amounted to 240,958 souls, where the male population amounted to 118,894 inhabitants and the population numbered 122,064 souls of women. While based on the results of Voter Registration and Documenting Sustainable Population (P4B) in 2003, recorded a population of 257,159 inhabitants, so that in three years there was an increase of 16,901 people or about 2.25 percent per year.
In 2004, the population reached 265,724 inhabitants of the male population of 132,271 inhabitants and 133,453 female population of mental or growth of 3.33 percent.
